Royer Cooper Cohen Braunfeld LLC (RCCB) was proud to announce that two of its esteemed Intellectual Property (IP) partners, Barry Cohen and Nancy Rubner Frandsen, chaired IP Philly 2025, an essential event for any attorney dealing with IP issues. The program, in partnership with Temple University School of Law, was held on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Temple’s Center City Campus in Philadelphia.

IP Philly 2025 was the second annual full-day, in-person event designed to offer attorneys an in-depth look at the latest trends, developments, and critical issues in the world of intellectual property law. It was a must-attend event for anyone working with IP matters, providing attendees the chance to earn 5 substantive credits and 1 ethics credit through the day-long CLE program. Breakfast and lunch were provided, offering opportunities to connect with fellow professionals in the industry.

What Was Learned

The day’s program offered a wealth of valuable insights into today’s most pressing IP concerns. Highlights included:

  • Patent Law Developments: Federal District Judge John F. Murphy moderated a panel of intellectual property lawyers who reviewed the most influential patent law developments from the past year.

  • Trade Secrets: A session on significant state and federal trade secret developments provided attendees with the latest information on this vital area of IP law.

  • Copyright Law Updates: The latest changes and developments in copyright law were covered in-depth, offering practical insights.

  • Trademark Cases: A review of recent trademark cases and their potential impact on the industry.

  • Ethical Considerations in IP: A crucial discussion on the ethical considerations related to intellectual property, including the increasing use of Generative AI.

One of the key events of the day was the exclusive “You’ve Been Hacked: Now What?” lunch panel. Top industry professionals shared best practices for managing data breaches, covering topics such as immediate response strategies, risk minimization, and recovery plans.

New Opportunity: IP Primer Webinar

For those who were new to IP law or didn’t specialize in it, IP Philly 2025 offered an exciting new addition to this year’s event. On March 17, 2025, one day before the main event, RCCB and Temple hosted a free IP Primer Webinar. This 1.5-hour session was designed for non-IP lawyers or those early in their careers, covering the essential basics of intellectual property law. Participants indicated their interest during registration for the main event.

The event concluded with a cocktail reception, providing ample networking opportunities for all attendees.
